Corolla Celebrates 60 Years With a Limited-Edition Model

Few vehicles have built a legacy quite like the Toyota Corolla. Since its debut in Japan in 1966, the Corolla has evolved alongside generations of drivers, becoming one of Toyota’s most recognizable and enduring nameplates. Now, as the compact car celebrates its 60th anniversary, Toyota is marking the occasion with a limited-production model that combines the Corolla’s long-running reputation for efficiency and dependability with modern styling and hybrid technology.

The 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition will be limited to just 2,500 units in the United States. Based on the sporty and efficient SE Hybrid grade, the special edition is designed to honor six decades of Corolla history while giving the popular compact sedan a distinctive new look.

2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition

The centerpiece of Toyota’s anniversary celebration is a Corolla built around the SE Hybrid. The combination gives the special edition a balance of fuel efficiency and athletic styling, making it a fitting tribute to a vehicle that has continually adapted to changing automotive tastes.

Buyers will be able to choose between two exterior colors: Ice Cap and Supersonic Red. The latter is particularly notable because Supersonic Red will be offered exclusively on the 60th Anniversary Special Edition and marks the first time the color has been available on the Corolla sedan.

The special edition also receives exclusive 18-inch machined, black-finished alloy wheels, giving the Toyota Corolla a more aggressive and planted appearance. Toyota has removed the standard SE badging and replaced it with unique 60th Anniversary badging, further distinguishing this limited-run model.

Exclusive Interior and Exterior Details

Inside, the anniversary Corolla continues its special-edition theme with driver-focused sport seats featuring Black and Red Sport fabric inserts. The cabin also includes 60th Anniversary door sills and custom floor mats, adding subtle reminders of the model’s six-decade heritage.

Technology gets an upgrade as well. The 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system comes standard on the 60th Anniversary Special Edition, providing a larger display for connectivity, entertainment and navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are also part of the 2027 Corolla’s technology package.

Hybrid Efficiency Meets Sporty Performance

Under the hood, the 2027 Toyota Corolla Hybrid lineup uses Toyota Hybrid System 5, pairing a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. The system produces a net combined 138 horsepower while emphasizing fuel efficiency.

The Hybrid LE and Hybrid XLE are rated by Toyota at an estimated 53 city/46 highway/50 combined MPG, while Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is available on the Hybrid LE and Hybrid SE grades.

That focus on efficiency is one of the defining characteristics of the modern Toyota Corolla. Rather than simply looking back at its history, the 60th Anniversary Special Edition uses hybrid technology to demonstrate how the Corolla continues to evolve for today’s drivers.

A 2027 Corolla for Every Driver

The anniversary model is only one part of the 2027 Toyota Corolla lineup. Gas-powered models will continue to be offered in LE, SE and XSE grades, while hybrid buyers can choose from Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, Hybrid XLE and the exclusive 60th Anniversary Special Edition.

Gas models use a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine producing 169 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. The Corolla LE has a manufacturer-estimated fuel economy rating of 32 city/41 highway/35 combined MPG.

For 2027, the Corolla and Corolla Hatchback also gain a new exterior color called Inked, adding another option for shoppers looking for a darker, more distinctive appearance.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Comes Standard

Safety remains a major part of the Toyota Corolla formula. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the 2027 Corolla lineup and includes features such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is also standard across all grades. Together, these technologies give the 2027 Toyota Corolla a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features while maintaining the model’s focus on everyday usability.

When Will the 2027 Toyota Corolla Arrive?

Toyota says the 2027 Corolla is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships in fall 2026, with the lineup starting at an MSRP of $23,325 for the LE grade, excluding dealer processing and handling.

The Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition is scheduled to arrive in early 2027. Toyota has not yet announced pricing for the limited-edition model, but with only 2,500 examples planned for the U.S., it is likely to attract attention from both longtime Corolla fans and buyers looking for a distinctive hybrid sedan.

A Legacy Built for Generations

After 60 years, the Toyota Corolla remains a strong example of how a vehicle can evolve without losing sight of the qualities that made it successful. From its 1966 debut to today’s hybrid-powered models, the Corolla has moved with the times while continuing to emphasize efficiency, practicality, technology and everyday driving.

The 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Special Edition takes that legacy one step further. With exclusive styling, special badging, upgraded technology and hybrid efficiency, it gives Toyota a modern way to celebrate six decades of one of the automotive industry’s most enduring nameplates.
